assisted-gps was introduced to different mobile communications standards to significantly reduce the time to first fix (ttff) of a gps receiver contained in a ue. this is achieved by transmitting information about the satellites directly from the base station to the ue.
the option assisted gps r&s®smu-k65 is only available for 2-path instruments equipped with two gps options r&s®smu-k44. the option r&s®smu-k65 enhances the option r&s®smu-k44 with functionalities required for a-gps test scenarios. it fully supports all gps scenarios for a-gps 2g/3g protocol and conformance test cases. all settings (simulated position, satellite configuration, almanac, navigation data…) are done automatically by the r&s®smu200a vector signal generator.
the following predefined a-gps test scenarios are currently supported:
- gsm signaling test scenario (3gpp ts 51.010-1 v.7.7.0)
- gsm performance test scenario#1 (3gpp ts 51.010-1 v.7.7.0)
- gsm performance test scenario#2 (3gpp ts 51.010-1 v.7.7.0)
- gsm performance test scenario#3 (3gpp ts 51.010-1 v.7.7.0)
- 3gpp fdd signaling test scenario (3gpp 34.108 v.8.0.0, 3gpp ts 34.123-3 v.6.4.0)
- 3gpp fdd performance test scenario#1 (3gpp 34.108 v.8.0.0, 3gpp 34.171 v.7.0.1)
- 3gpp fdd performance test scenario#2 (3gpp 34.108 v.8.0.0, 3gpp 34.171 v.7.0.1)
- 3gpp fdd performance test scenario#3 (3gpp 34.108 v.8.0.0, 3gpp 34.171 v.7.0.1)
beside of the automatic configuration of scenarios it is also possible to define user-specific test scenarios for a-gps. if necessary, any parameter (simulated position, satellite configuration, satellite track, almanac, navigation data, ionospheric model…) can freely be adjusted to the user’s exact requirements.
furthermore, the option assisted gps r&s®smu-k65 is also able to provide all kinds of assistance data in line with the simulated scenario which can be provided to the ue by a protocol tester, like e.g. the r&s®cmu/crtu family. certainly, this also applies to user-defined a-gps test scenarios.
however, the option assisted gps r&s®smu-k65 is not limited to be used in a-gps testing exclusively. for testing of stand-alone gps receivers the r&s®smu-k65 is useful as it is possible to create user-defined gps scenarios. full flexibility is offered on the simulated satellites including definition of the satellites’ orbits, the complete navigation message and the ionospheric model of each satellite. furthermore, as simulation of moving receivers is part of the a-gps test cases the option r&s®smu-k65 enhances the gps option r&s®smu-k44 by user-definable moving scenarios, which can also be used for testing stand-alone gps-receivers. the user has the possibility to define a movement by means of a so-called “waypoint” file, which will lead to a “moving” of the connected gps-receiver.
